Wild

The Wild exhibition features the work of ten artists who participated in a creativity workshop held at Ngongoni Game Lodge near Nelspruit from 31 March to 4 April 2025. The workshop was offered through the CAP Institute for Contemporary Art Practice and facilitated by its founder Elfriede Dreyer—artist, curator, and professor at UNISA.

The guiding theme was inspired by Paul Gauguin’s poignant question and painting title: Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going? (1897). This phrase served as a conceptual springboard, inviting reflection on profound existential concerns—human origins, identity, and destiny.

In response, the artists explored these questions through a lens of origin, archaeology, and history; interrogating the human impact on nature in the age of the Anthropocene, and considering nature as both home and memory. Wild nature served as visual inspiration, conceptual framework, and material source— shaping the creative investigations presented in this exhibition.
