Exhibition Title: Shadowline
An exhibition by Ingrid Uys, Michael Selekane, Sue Martin, and Winston Thekiso
featuring Majak Bredell and Phindile Mamba
Inspired by conscious and subconscious self-reflection our selection of artists and projected exhibition, Shadowline, will place a focus on both internal and external factors and elements that affect our beings and ways of navigating the world.
Shadowline, takes inspiration from the act of Shadow Work, working with your unconscious mind to uncover the parts of yourself that you repress and hide from yourself. Shadow Work can also fall under the umbrella of self-reflection, and self-examination, and in retrospect becomes a practice of introspection.
Our group of artists has all taken on a new dimension in their works to encapsulate these ideas and in different ways play with shadows in a literal way, by layering their mediums, incorporating textures, and creating forms out of shapes. Some references in the artworks are more direct to how we perceive and work at understanding ourselves, and others are more contemplative in theme, focusing on our relationship with our external environments, natural, rural, and urban.
